Ambassador Omar Castañeda Solares participated in the International Conference on Climate Change and Environment organized by the prestigious Siksha O’ Anushandan University -SOA- of the city of Bhubaneswar, capital of the State of Odisha, Republic of India from July 10 to 11, 2025.
The international conference organized by SOA University was attended by faculty members from different faculties of SOA University, as well as the Director General of Meteorology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of the Republic of India and representatives from Spain, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Italy, Guyana, Seychelles, India and Guatemala.
The international conference was aimed at raising awareness of environmental preservation, as well as showcasing the efforts of different countries to promote sustainable practices to counteract the effects of climate change.
During the event, Ambassador Castañeda said that Guatemala is a privileged country with unique fauna and flora in the world, home to different ecosystems including tropical rainforests, subtropical forests, mangroves, volcanic areas and other areas. Currently, the Government of Guatemala is working hard to conserve our protected areas, with a long-term vision to foster a culture of responsibility to protect our environment. On the other hand, despite the efforts being made, Guatemala continues to be a country vulnerable to the environment, as are many others, and as such, it is necessary to continue integrating joint efforts to avoid greater impacts of climate change that affect our populations.
By participating in this conference, the Embassy of Guatemala in India continues to promote environmental protection and conservation as part of President Bernardo Arevalo’s general government policy.
