MR. ESMAYLIN THOMAS GOMEZ ESCOBEDO

Minister Counsellor Esmaylin Thomas Gomez Escobedo, he is a career diplomat that joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala in August of 2012. He has served in multiple positions such as First Secretary of the Temporary Delegation of Guatemala to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), First Secretary of the Sub directorate of Multilateral Policy to the United Nations, First Secretary and Consul of the Embassy of Guatemala and from September 2021 till the date as Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Guatemala to the Republic of India.

Minister Counsellor Gomez holds a Master’s Degree in Central American Regional Integration and Development from three Central American Universities: Rafael Landívar University of Guatemala, Simeón Cañas University of El Salvador and the Central American University of Nicaragua. Also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the Rafael Landívar University of Guatemala and multiple diplomas and trainings indifferent fields such as Criminalistic, Democracy, Political Systems, International Cooperation, Leadership, Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Change, among others. He speaks, writes and understands Spanish and English and has studies in French and Italian.

His experience during the tenure of Guatemala in the UNSC, was in charge of following up different thematic geographic areas such African Countries, Haiti and the Balkans. During his position as First Secretary at the Sub directorate of Multilateral Policy to the UN, he was in charge of all the coordination between National Authorities to establish the National positions during the Conferences of the Parties of the Environmental, Chemical Products and Sustainable Development Agreements.
As Diplomat at the Embassy of Guatemala to India, since 2019 had developed different roles, such as being in charge of the Consular, Commercial, Cultural and Political matters and coordination of the Administrative personnel and accounting, and between March to December 2022, held the position of Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy.
