Inauguration of the Sala B’at’z Cultural Center, a space designed for the cultural, academic, commercial and tourist promotion of Guatemala.
The inauguration event was attended as a guest of honor by Mr. Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Prize 2014, who congratulated himself on the Embassy’s efforts to strengthen cultural relations between Guatemala and India. The speeches included the reading of a letter sent by Dr. Rigoberta Menchú, referring to the inauguration of Sala B’at’z and sending a brotherly greeting to Mr. Satyahrti. The ceremony concluded by unveiling two plaques with phrases alluding to World Peace, enunciated by the 1992 and 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureates, respectively.
The Sala B’at’z Cultural Center is a space designed for the cultural, academic, commercial and tourist promotion of Guatemala in India. The audiovisual equipment installed makes it possible to project films, give conferences and, in general, project the image of Guatemala in an interactive way. Sala B’at’z has a library of national authors, a collection of Guatemalan huipiles, and a panel of descriptive photographs with images of the seven tourist regions of Guatemala.
Members of the Diplomatic Corps, authorities from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, academics from different universities and people from civil society and the Indian media also participated.
The Sala B’at’z Cultural Center is part of the projects that the Embassy of Guatemala in India is developing within the Cultural Diplomacy agenda.
