About Castillo de San Felipe de Lara
This castle is located among the vegetation of the banks of the Rio Dulce.
This castle was built as a fortress by the Spanish to protect against the continuous attacks of the English pirates who threatened the Caribbean.
It was built in the mid-seventeenth century with palm leaf roofs, which were burned by pirates and completely destroying it in 1,686. Later it was rebuilt formally under the direction of Andres Ortiz de Urbina.
