About Izabal Lake
With an area of 590 km2., This is the largest lake in Guatemala and one of the largest in Central America.
It is formed by the streams that flow from the Sierra de Santa Cruz and rivers as Polochic and Dark. The valley where a depression and the surface water is one meter below sea level.
The maximum depth cannot be much: 18 mts. Although this gap, there is such a volume of fresh water that flows into the reservoir seawater invades never what might be considered a bay.
