About Quetzaltenango
Quetzaltenango Also known as Xelajú, is the capital of the department of Quetzaltenango, and also, is the second largest city in Guatemala, 206 km northwest of Guatemala City.
The city of Quetzaltenango is located in a mountainous valley in the western highlands of Guatemala with an average elevation above sea level of 2.333 meters (7,734 feet). Its climate is cold in the highlands, and hot and humid on the lower areas. The languages that are spoken are Spanish, Quiche and Mam.
Quetzaltenango is in a large valley surroundedby mountains and volcanoes, that preserves the ancient traditions of its Quiche Mayan heritage, combined with a colonial past and the dynamics of a modern city.
