Guatemala was welcomed as a new member of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) on April 22nd at the CDRI Governance Council meeting during a conference in New Delhi, Republic of India.
CDRI is a partnership of 39 national governments, United Nations agencies and programs, multilateral development banks, the private sector, and academic institutions. It was established in 2019 under the leadership of the Government of India.
One of its objectives is to promote the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks to ensure sustainable development. It also seeks to rapidly expand the development and modernization of resilient infrastructure to respond to the imperatives of the Sustainable Development Goals to expand universal access to basic services, enabling prosperity and decent work.
Guatemala also participated in the CDRI International Conference, held on April 24 and 25, 2024, in New Delhi, India, which was developed in a hybrid format (virtual and face-to-face) through representatives of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) and the Embassy of Guatemala accredited to the Government of the Republic of India.
The conference was held under the title: “Investing today for a more resilient future”. During the event, there was an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences in order to strengthen the resilience of infrastructure in middleand low income countries, as well as to strengthen cooperation among the members of this coalition.
